Put a tea bag in the fridge overnight – here’s why you should do it

The most consumed drink in the world is tea, after water obviously! And there are so many reasons to love it, but it will also save you from a big problem.

A hot cup of tea can boost your immunity, help you fall asleep or wake you up… The list is truly endless. But have you ever wondered what you can do with the tea bags left over after drinking tea?

We may have a habit of storing food incorrectly in the refrigerator. Plastic containers, bags, cheeses and sausages are items that become moldy and covered with a smelly white layer. So, if you store food in the refrigerator for a long time in this way, an unpleasant smell will appear. But how does the tea bag help us solve this problem?

What to do with the used tea bag?

Thanks to the natural properties of herbs, tea bags are effective inside a cup, but also outside. So don’t throw them away, because there are many ways to reuse them!

Unpleasant refrigerator odors are a big problem in the kitchen. So how to deal with this situation?

You may be used to using baking soda to deodorize, but did you know that tea can do the same job?

If you place a used tea bag in the refrigerator, the herb leaves will absorb odors and leave behind a fresh scent. This is due to the antibacterial properties of tea that fight potentially pathogenic bacteria and germs in a simple and ecological way.

What you should do:

    • Take a used tea bag and let it dry completely.
    • Then place it on a saucer or cup in a central place in your refrigerator.
    • You can also hang it.
    • If your refrigerator is especially large or has a very strong smell, you can use several tea bags.
    • For maximum odor control, replace sachets every few days.
    • If you use this unusual trick every day, your refrigerator will always smell good!

Why does the refrigerator smell bad?

Unfortunately we have the habit of storing food incorrectly in the refrigerator and this can cause a bad smell. Because the food inside the refrigerator, along with the humidity, creates a perfect environment for mold and bacteria.

Do not panic! Find the source of the bad smell and get rid of it. And next time, remember to put your food in an airtight box or container before putting it in the refrigerator.

Another reason could be the presence of foods with a strong natural odor, such as onion and garlic. In this case, they should not be discarded, only neutralize the odor.

How to use used tea bags? Other ideas to try

Now that you know that tea bags have the ability to mask bad odors, you can get creative and try it in different places in your home.

Here are some ideas: put a used tea bag in your cat’s litter box or hang it in the hamster’s cage, or you can put it at the bottom of the trash can. Used tea bags can similarly be used in clothing drawers or to treat smelly shoes.

Remember that tea bags should always be completely dry before using them.
