In this article, we are going to share some low-budget tips that can help make old shoes look better than new ones. You probably haven’t heard of many of these tricks, so be sure to check them out!

1. Use glue to fix slippery soles.

Apply some strips of hot glue to the soles of your shoes to make them less slippery.

2. Dry shampoo and baby powder get rid of shoe odor.

You can either apply dry shampoo directly on your feet to nix perspiration or spray it inside your shoes to absorb the bad smell. You can also get rid of the foul smell with baby powder.

3. Use stale bread to clean suede shoes.

Thanks to its rough texture, stale bread can remove surface stains from your suede shoes without ruining the fabric.

4. Hairspray keeps shoes from slipping off your feet.

If you apply some hairspray to your feet, it will make them sticky and keep shoes from slipping off. So now you can wear your favorite peep-toed shoes without any discomfort!

5. Use hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to make your shoes bright again.

One of the most effective ways to clean your white canvas shoes is to apply a homemade mixture of water, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide to them, leave them to dry for a couple of hours, and then remove them from the surface.

6. Use isopropyl alcohol to get rid of stains.

Thanks to its cleansing abilities, isopropyl alcohol is widely used in medicine, pharmacy, automobile, and cosmetics production. And it also works perfectly well when you need to remove stains from your leather shoes!

7. Use flint paper to fix slippery soles.

Flint-paper can easily fix the slippery soles of your shoes: just gently rub the soles of your shoes with it!

8. Use tea bags to get rid of bad odor.

Simply put some unused tea bags in your shoes to get rid of the bad odor.

9. Use bra padding instead of silicone insoles for shoes.

Despite the fact that there are special silicone insoles for shoes, you may not have them on hand the moment you need them most. As an alternative, use thin bra padding and you’ll feel more comfortable in a new pair of shoes even if they’re high heels!

10. Use wine bottles to maintain the shape of your shoes.

Thanks to their weight and height, wine bottles placed inside of the shoes will easily help to maintain their shape.

11. Use oat flour to get rid of grease stains.

Apply some oat flour on grease stains and they’ll miraculously disappear from your suede shoes.

12. Use a hair conditioner to protect your shoes.

A small amount of hair conditioner will not only help to polish and moisturize your leather shoes, but it will create a protective coat as well.

13. Use nail polish remover to clean the shoes.

Apply some nail polish remover on a cotton pad and gently rub your shoes with it. If you want to clean the bottom of your canvas shoes, this tip is exactly what you need.

14. Use soap to prevent an unpleasant smell.

Put a bar of soap inside of the shoes to absorb unpleasant odors.

15. Use a newspaper to polish your shoes.

Crumple a black and white newspaper into a ball and polish your black shoes with it.

Of course, thanks to modern technology there are many ways to take care of our shoes. However, sometimes we can only use the items we have on hand, giving us some great good low-budget solutions!
