Johnny Depp’s shift from a youthful, heartthrob to a 61-year-old weathered actor is causing intense discussions among online admirers, with some claiming that “time hasn’t been kind to him” and others imploring him to “wash [his] hair.”
Johnny Depp, at 61, has taken on the aging process with the same charm and mystique that marked his legendary career. The two-time winner of People’s Sexiest Man Alive, known for his roles in films such as Edward Scissorhands, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Sweeney Todd, has matured into a dignified version of his particular self, sacrificing young edginess for a seasoned elegance that some admirers like.
Depp’s visage now combines rugged features with an identifiable sense of elegance that recalls his previous years. His appearance tells a story—one fashioned by a career in the spotlight, hard-fought personal struggles, and an unwavering dedication to his craft. He’s kept his distinctive sense of style with his iconic scarves, rings, and bohemian flair, creating a look that’s all his own.
Despite some ups and downs in recent years, Depp has reinvented himself, attracting followers through new ventures and partnerships, particularly in music.
His band, Hollywood Vampires, has allowed him to showcase another aspect of his craft, and he has enthusiastically welcomed this new chapter. The artist, actor, and singer of today continues to enchant audiences, demonstrating that age just adds dimensions to his mysterious persona.
When in Rome
On October 26, Depp made a remarkable visit to the 19th Rome Film Festival to promote his latest film, Modi, Three Days on the Wing of Madness. The film also stars Al Pacino, who co-produced while Depp directed.
“He is a wild fella and he is very creative, and it was fun to work with him. It really was,” Pacino tells People of Depp, who he shares a decades-long relationship.
Modi, based on Dennis McIntyre’s play on Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, is the first film directed by the award-winning partnership since their debut in the 1997 crime drama Donnie Brasco.
“I’m working with Johnny again, and Johnny and I get together sometimes. And Johnny and I, he would just say, ‘Here we are. A couple of toddlers,” Pacino, 84, tells the outlet. “He’s wild. He’s wonderful.”
While in Rome, Depp earned the film festival’s renowned Lifetime Achievement Award, enthralling spectators once more with his trademark charisma and outrageous style.
Dressed in a classic Depp outfit – a fitted suit adorned with his favorite rings and bracelets – Johnny added his signature flair to the red carpet. His appearance, a blend of vintage Hollywood and rocker edge, complemented the festival’s refinement while remaining loyal to his own style. The Fantastic Beasts franchise star took the time to greet fans, sign autographs, and pose for photos, demonstrating the personable attitude that has won him over audiences around the world for decades.
However, several followers were quick to voice their concerns, pointing out that he appears scruffy and is aging terribly.
“Is that even him?” asks one netizen.
“I love Johnny, but please wash your hair,” comments one fan in an Instagram post that shows Depp at the festival. Agreeing with that message, another writes “Considering he doesn’t like to bathe it’s probably grease.”
“Time hasn’t been kind to him, has it?” says a third, while a fourth writes, “He’s the age of a grandfather. It’s unfortunate the last of his best years in Hollywood were taken from him.”
“He’s not aging well,” shares another, a comment that invited several online fans to jump to the actor’s defence.
“He looks great, shut it already with this nonsense,” writes one. A second pens, “he aged very well but people are used to the fake faces with so much plastic surgery, but he doesn’t give a F about that, he is aging naturally and beautifully.”
In fact, many admire Depp’s authentic style, appreciating that he hasn’t resorted to drastic measures to look younger. Instead, he’s leaning into his natural aging process, sporting a grizzled charm that only adds to his allure.
“Beautiful Johnny. How is he 61? So happy and proud of him!!” shares a cyber fan while another jokingly commends his natural aging: “He is aging horribly, good for him.”
