An elderly mother’s moving letter to her daughter

My dear girl,

If one day, you see that I have become old, if I spill food on myself when I eat and I am not able to dress myself…Please, be patient.

Remember how much time I spent teaching you how to dress yourself when you were a little girl.

If when I speak, I repeat them same old things, do not interrupt me, listen to me…

When you were little, I had to always tell you the same stories until you fell asleep.

If sometimes, I do not want to take a bath, do not criticize me and make me feel ashamed.

Remember when I had to run after you…inventing excuses because you did not want to take bath.

If you notice my ignorance, regarding the new technologies, give me the necessary time to learn and Do not look me with that ironic smile.

I also had to have a lot of patience when I taught you the alphabets and helped you with your homework.

If I am not able to remember things and lose the thread of a conversation, give me time to remember and if I cannot, then don’t get upset.

The most important thing is not what I say but to be there with you and to know that you are listening to me.

If my tired legs do not allow me to keep up with you, when we walk together…Do not treat me like a burden.

Come towards me, and hold out your hands, in the same way that I did with you when you took your first steps…

If I say that I wish I were d.e.a.d, do not get angry…

One day you will understand what has made me say this and you will understand that at my age, one does not live, instead of survives.

One day you will understand that despite my errors, I have always wanted the best for you, and that I tried to smooth the path for you.

Give me a little of your time and also your patience.

Let me lay my head on your shoulder, in the same way, that I have done for you.

I love you, my dear daughter, and I pray for you, even if you ignore me.
