Home improvement doesn’t have to be difficult. You can make major changes to your home’s look and feel with simple changes that will have a huge impact. With a little bit of creativity and effort, you too can make your home as beautiful as you imagined.

You don’t have to be a skilled carpenter or have a huge bank account to upgrade your home. These seven home improvement projects are easy to handle and will make your home look more expensive.

1. Redo Your Backsplash

Surprisingly, redoing your backsplash on a kitchen or bathroom wall is easy to do yourself. You can transform the mood of an entire room with a bold, new modern backsplash in ceramic or glass tile. In some cases, you won’t even need to remove the old work. For example, you can add a coat of paint over the existing backsplash, or go rustic by adding wood overtop the material. Choosing options like these help you dramatically save time and effort. They tend to be very cost-effective, too. If you are a bit more adventurous, it is possible to remove old tiles without damaging the drywall. Remember to be patient and take your time.

2. Wallpaper One Wall

With the new revitalization of wall-coverings, stores are now carrying a wide range of unique patterns of wallpaper. To keep your home fresh, consider putting up wallpaper on one wall in your living room, bedroom, or bathroom. This helps keep the project affordable, while also adding a pop of fun to your home. It will also lessen the time and effort needed to complete your project. Take a photo of the room you would like to improve and ask a specialist in your local store what will work well with your existing home furnishings. They can help you pick out which type of paper to order, as well as give you tips on how to install it.

3. Update Your Hardware

One of the easiest ways to update your home is by changing out the factory-issued handles and pulls on cabinets and drawers. You can select designs that reflect your more personal taste. For a unique and eclectic look, check out local antique shops for pieces. For more modern pieces, your hardware store will have great options. Switching out handles on cabinets takes very little time to do and can be done in under an hour depending on how many you have. Don’t just redo your kitchen, either. Consider changing out cabinets in your bathroom and doorknobs throughout the house.

4. Replace or Install New Lighting

Dress up your home with a fresh light fixture. Replacing an existing fixture is the easiest option because you only need to turn off the power and connect the wires. Changing fixtures not only can brighten up a room but make it more modern. There are some great industrial-looking fixtures in style right now. Adding dimmer switches can quickly give your dining room and kitchen an atmosphere of a fancy restaurant and are very easy to install. Ceiling fans are also great options for changing up a room, while also helping you save money on air conditioning. For even more of a pop, place a ceiling medallion around a fan or light fixture. This is great if you have basic architecture and want something to give the ceiling some flare. Decorative ceiling medallions are available in all shapes, sizes, and styles.

5. Add Shelving

An easy way to increase the value of your home is by adding more functionality. Shelving space is great for extra organization and storage. Floating shelves do not take up a lot of space, and are very easy to install. They can stand alone on a wall or be put in a corner for a cute look. In addition, hanging shelves are also a quick and unique update to a room. To revitalize a larger wall, bookshelves can be used to create the impression of built-ins. This can be done in a home office around a desk, or around home entertainment centers.

6. Spruce Up Your Flooring

Redoing flooring can be expensive, but there are options for sprucing up some of the existing floorings you already have. For example, over the years grout can get dirty and slowly deteriorate from wear and tear. By keeping the tiles that already exist, add thin strips of small tiles in the grout lines of the larger tiles brings a fresh, unique look. Another DIY option is refinishing hardwood floors and giving them a new stain. Concrete floors look great with painted stencil designs. Do some research for the type of flooring you have, and consider placing complete new flooring on top of it. For a really easy change, add new area rugs.

7. Rearrange Furniture

For a simple and affordable home improvement project, use what you have. Simply rearrange your family room or living room furniture to create a more comfortable conversation area. If you have an L-shaped seating area that doesn’t allow for face-to-face chats, move the seats to create a U-shaped grouping. This will allow for more intimate conversation and a more balanced-looking grouping that makes you feel better whenever you’re in the room.

With a little bit of creativity, you can completely update your home and improve its value. These projects are easy to do, don’t break the bank, and will help you have the home of your dreams. While simple, these projects produce great results and upgrade the look and feel of your home.
