20+ Must-Know Hacks to Clean a Bathroom Fast and Efficiently

Making the bathroom sparkle and shine (and sanitized) doesn’t have to be the dreadful chore that we often turn it into. These bathroom cleaning hacks can help you get your bathroom super clean without spending a lot of time and elbow grease on it.

1. Tile and Grout Cleaner

For this hack, you’ll need a power drill, a washer, bolt, machine screw, and a soap dispenser brush. Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke. A power drill and a bolt walk into a bar…….off topic. Basically, put the screw into the brush and secure it with the bolt and the washer.

Attach this onto the power drill and dip the brush into soapy water. Turn the drill on so that the brush starts cleaning the tile, grout, and even your toilet bowl! Genius right??

2. Surface Cleaner

You know that scrub brush you’ve had in your cabinet that you’ve been MEANING to use on the dishes? Forget it, because it will totally save your bathroom. Fill the brush with a solution made of water and vinegar in a 1:1 ratio and scrub away. You get an incredible amount of lather, making the surface easier to scrub.

3. Black Tea Cleaner For Glass

Turns out, I don’t need to make a cleaner or buy one. I just need to use something I drink anyway on a daily basis! No offense to the coffee lovers. Just soak 3-4 tea bags in some warm/hot water and then pour this concentrated water into a spray bottle. Spray away! Watch that glass window shine and ACTUALLY let the sunlight in. How is it shining you may ask?

A substance called tannic acid, present in the black tea, causes surfaces to shine. Use it without hesitation, there won’t be any black residue on the surfaces!

4. Soak Shower Heads And Faucets In a Bag of Vinegar

Looking for a lazy yet effective way to clean your showerheads and faucets? Look no further. Literally, all you have to do is fill up a Ziploc or plastic bag with vinegar and tie it around the faucet or showerhead. Secure it with a thick rubber band and let it soak overnight. Scrub it off the next morning, and admire the shine.

5. Toilet Bowl

I have to say that despite my love for cleaning, I loathe cleaning the toilet bowl. It’s kinda like cooking and eating a meal. You’re super excited about the fried potatoes, green beans, and pie, but you’re really not looking forward to the kale salad. This method is pretty straightforward.

Fill the toilet bowl with a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar (1/4 cup each) and let it soak for 15 minutes. Flush the toilet and voila!

6. Bathtub Cleaner

Who knows what you can find in a bathtub? Miles of clogged hair, a new alien species, grime in weird nooks and crannies……the list goes on. Basically, all this stuff makes it very difficult to clean the bathtub and get it back to perfection.

So, combine 1 part of dish soap and 1 part of warm vinegar in a spray bottle and coat all the problematic surfaces. Let this rest for 30 minutes before cleaning it off.

7. Hard Water Stains

You know those water stains you can’t seem to get rid of? Pouring more water on top of it isn’t going to clean it. Believe me, the 7-year-old version of me thought she was very smart while doing that. Turns out, all you need is a lemon. Cut a lemon in half and rub it over the stain. Let it rest for about 30 minutes before pouring some water over it.

8. Keep a Magic Eraser in The Shower To Clean

I feel like the only time I get to relax is in the shower. Seriously! Then I look at the dirty shower and realize that I have to clean myself and the shower. All you need apparently is a magic eraser! Scrub the shower, and yourself! It really won’t take a lot of time.

9. Clogged Drains

Have you ever pulled out a bunch of hair from the drain and wondered which planet it originated from? Sorry, mom, it was totally my hair the last 3 times even though I said it wasn’t. All you need are 4 Alka – Seltzer tablets to be dropped down the drain, followed by 1 cup of vinegar. Wait for 10 minutes before pouring some boiling water to get rid of residual bacteria.

10. Soap Suds

While this hack may take a little craftiness on your end, it’s definitely ingenious. Take a huge foam sponge and take out enough sponge from one side to fit exactly one soap bar. This way, every time you use the soap, neither the soap suds nor the soap gets wasted!

11. Screwdriver Hack

You know those nooks and crannies you can’t reach? That crack line right below the toilet bowl or the pipelines under the sink? Take a wet wipe, drape it over a screwdriver and nudge it into these gaps for proper cleaning. Genius right?

12. Mark Old Sponges To Avoid Cross-Contamination

The kitchen and bathroom are pretty much breeding grounds for bacteria, no matter how much dish soap you use or wet wipes you wipe down with. You probably end up throwing out more sponges than how many you use.

Rather than wasting a trip to the store every time you need one, just cut the corners off of the sponge to re-purpose it! It’s kinda like making repairs to your old car.

13. Bathtub

It’s really important to keep your bathtub clean, especially if you have kids. Since the bathroom and kitchen are breeding grounds for bacteria anyway, a normal cleaner isn’t going to cut it. Cut a grapefruit in half, and rub some salt on its face, and scrub your bathtub with it. Make sure your bathtub is a little wet while doing this, to really make the salt stick.

14. Prevent Your Bathroom Mirror From Fogging

There’s nothing worse than taking a shower, going to the mirror to make yourself presentable, then pause to clean the fogged-up mirror. To be honest, whenever I wipe the mirror, it just fogs up again. Wipe it down with a thin layer of shaving cream, and it will act as a protective layer.

15. Basic Sink Cleaning

Since it isn’t as heavily infested with bacteria compared to other parts of the house, a simple cleaner will do for this area. It’s kinda the lesser of….many evils. See what I did there? Sinks shouldn’t be too much of a concern in terms of bacteria, but it’s definitely an area where there’s a large build-up of hard water. For which, you just need a paste made of equal parts of vinegar and baking soda. Let it sit for 15 minutes before you demolish it with a scrubber.

16. Use Kool-Aid for Toilet Cleaner

This is probably something you hide from your kids anyway on a regular basis. So, put it to good use and clean your toilet! Empty a packet into the toilet bowl, and scrub for uber freshness and shine.

17. Counters

The counters are as essential to the bathroom, as garbage cans are to your house. They’re overlooked, but essential to clean and maintain. Make a concoction of water and vinegar in a 1:1 ratio and use a toothbrush to scrub it into the surface. Make sure to rotate the toothbrush in circles to really stick it.

18. Basic Floor Cleaning

The whole point of cleaning the floor is to get gunk and grime off of it so that you don’t have any oopsy daisy moments. As someone who is very clumsy, this happens more often than I’d care to admit.

Do a basic rundown of the floor by sweeping or vacuuming the dust. Then use a wire cleaner to get out the grime and grout stuck between the tiles. As a final touch, mop the floor with a bit of cleaner to give it some shine.

19. Cleaning Rusty Shower Curtains

Hard water, dirt, grime, and rust are just new flavors of the week on the sides of your curtain that refuse to come out. Just throw them into the washing machine with your kids’ towels with a little bit of bleach. This saves time and sanity.

20. Organize Under the Sink With Bins

If your sink doesn’t look like Monica’s worst nightmare, then call me. Because right now, I open my sink and a million things hit me in the face. Organizing with bins really reduces clutter, making it much easier to access items.

21. Homemade Toilet Cleaning Bombs

Whew! I’m pretty sure your toilet felt the after-effects of last night’s spicy food fest, but now you have no idea how to get rid of the smell. Make some easy cleaning bombs to store for later use with 1/4 cup of citric acid, 1/4 cup of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of dish soap.

Press these into silicone molds and you’re done! Let these soak in the toilet bowl before you flush after 20 minutes.

22. Clean Using Dryer Sheets

I always love objects that are multi-functional. They’re kinda like unicorns. They can be used to freshen the toilet, get rid of dust in the bathroom, and shine surfaces! To clean the toilet bowl, just drop a sheet in and flush.

23. Baby Oil as Chrome Polish

Those hard water stains are very difficult to get rid of. Not anymore! Simply put a few drops of baby oil on a towel and rub your chrome faucets and shower handles. Isn’t that why they say, “wash away your troubles with some bubbles.”
